''Cause you had a bad day"

"Cause you had a bad day.
...
Well you need a blue sky holiday."

Bad Day
Daniel Powter

Today is a "loose day" (a strange, bad one).

From a modern daily French expression :
"C'est la loose ! "
(For a not-too-serious catastrophic situation, when you are convinced that you should have stayed in bed all day long.).

It all started at 1 a.m. (yesterday evening) when I just had enough time to see that my "Thursday Quote" had not directly been posted on my blog, before my internet connexion stopped...

This morning was supposed to be a new, fresh, happy day.
It was only sunny.

"Life belongs to those who wake up early."
I was in adavance so I took my time...
I eventually was late.

I knocked my tea mug over downstairs.
My necklace caught hold of the handle of my bedside table drawer.
Everything that was inside fell downstairs...
Amongst everything there was an open box full of thum-tacks (drawing-pins).
I was barefeet and already late.

I had forgotten to take a very strong treatment against allergies.
I stayed 25 additional minutes at home.

Then ...

As i was waiting for the metro, a old man started to talk to me, then asked me more and more indiscrete questions....
I hate those kind of men and came into a wagon far from him.

A few minutes later, many students wearing pink & green fluorescent wetsuits came INTO "my" wagon at the same time and started to singing "Booh Paris, we are from (another famous school) and we are gonna defeat you at the student inter-school competition".
At this point, I have to censore the other "songs" I heard.

I arrived at work 45 minutes later than I should have.
Nobody said anything to me.
My computer keyboard was blocked.
Then my screen was completely blue.

At lunch time, I went to the shop around the corner.
A Chinese man was with his kid.
Another guy started yelling : "there are too many Chinese people in France. They steal the jobs of French people".
They started arguing.
A 3rd one, from Arab origin, tried to intervene, but was treated as an "Arabe" (which is very VERY insulting in French).
He yelled.
The Chinese replied "Leave me alone, I'm not Indian."
And a 5th guy, from Indian origins, entered into the mess...
In the end, an old man said "Stop it, there are children there".
They all looked to the little Asian boy.
So the Chinese guy went away with his son.
The Indian went on working.
The other ones paid their groceries.
I picked up 2 pears and a carrot-coriander soup, paid and went back to work.

Luckily spring is back to Paris.
Unfortunately pollens are back too.

I worked fast and went out early :-)
I phoned friends who had a train one hour later.
No answer :-(

By this time, two women came into the metro wagon, which I was sitted in.
The younger one had pushed the older.
They started yelling at each other.
They went on insulting each other louder and louder.
I said very slowly to the girl who was sitted next to me
"Oh, I'm fed up."
The older one turned to me and yelled :
"YOU, if you are not happy, you have to do as if you were dumb."
Everybody looked at me and slightly laughed at her.
Both stopped talking.

I finally arrived at the - overcrowded - train station.
My friends were not there.
They were still in the metro, praying to catch their train.
I did not met them before they left Paris.

I bought "Canelés" from Bordeaux.
Canelés are delicious mini-cakes.
After that I had 3,27€ left in my wallet.
I decided to buy "daily" food... which cost me 3,57€.
Not enough coins.
God bless, the inventer of credit cards....

Now I'm back home.

I replied to a very important e-mail.
My computer went blank and the half-written e-mail was sent...
I had to rewrite the whole thing, starting by apologizing.

I read newspapers.
Elizabeth Taylor and her purple eyes passed away two days ago.
The political situation is more and more complex in France.
There is a war in Libya and I fear that it will be long.
The 3rd reactor in Fukushima nuclear plant is damaged...

It is 8.08 p.m. now.
(8 is my favourite figure).
I listen to ABBA songs.
"Gimme ! Gimme ! Gimme a man after midnight !".
It always makes me sing feel happy.
And when I re-read all that happened to me...

NEVERTHELESS...

I am in good health.
So are my family and friends.
We do not starve.
We have a confortable home.
I have enough money to buy food and have a home.
I have a job.
We have not experienced the earthquake + tsunami + nuclear disaster in Japan.

It was a strange day
BUT
It could have been FAR worse.

Talk to you soon and take care of you,

Frenchy Baguette

PS : Today the Euromillion lottery provides the winner with 130 millions of Euros...
I won't gamble.
I won't go out tonight.
I dont think that even if I had gambled, I would have won anything today.

PS2 : Here is the video of "Bad Day" by Daniel Powter.
I really really liked the end with the drawing on the metro poster.

Lyrics :

Where is the moment when we need it the most
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost
They tell me your blue sky's faded to grey
They tell me your passion's gone away
And I don't need no carrying on

Stand in the line just ahead of the law
You're faking a smile with the coffee you go
You tell me your life's been way off line
You're falling to pieces every time
And I don't need no carrying on

Cause you had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
You had a bad day
You had a bad day

Well you need a blue sky holiday
The point is they laugh at what you say
And I don't need no carrying on

You had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
You had a bad day
You had a bad day

Sometimes the system goes on the blink and the whole thing it turns out
Wrong
You might not make it back and you know that you could be well oh that
Strong
Well I'm not wrong

So where is the passion when you need it the most
Oh you and I
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost

Cause you had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
You've seen what you like
And how does it feel for one more time
You had a bad day x3

  1. Dear Frenchy,

This is one of my favorite posts so far, because I could just feel the texture of your life coming through. Plus, ma jour est loose also. I'm drinking green tea very slowly and hoping that this cloud leaves my brain soon. Because I love my life and want to be present with it.

Hugs from rainy Seattle and foggy Adena

  2. Dear Adena,

Today is not a "loose" day anymore (luckily...). I'm sure that you must have laughed while reading this message and enjoying this peaceful moment (green tea + self awareness).

Hugs from Paris, hoping that the clouds let your brain,

    Frenchy Baguette
